Background of the Study
Diplomatic engagement is increasingly pivotal in addressing global challenges such as climate change. International summit negotiations provide platforms for world leaders to deliberate on climate policies, negotiate emission reduction targets, and forge multilateral agreements (Garcia, 2023; Lee, 2024). These summits are characterized by high-level dialogue, intricate negotiations, and the convergence of diverse national interests, all aimed at developing coordinated global responses to environmental challenges. The process of diplomatic engagement in these settings not only shapes international climate policy but also influences national priorities and sustainable development strategies. By leveraging diplomatic channels, nations can pool resources, share technology, and commit to ambitious environmental goals. However, achieving consensus in international summit negotiations is challenging due to conflicting economic interests, political pressures, and differing levels of development. This study evaluates the effectiveness of diplomatic engagement in addressing climate change, drawing evidence from recent international summits. It examines negotiation dynamics, the role of compromise, and the outcomes in terms of policy commitments, offering insights into the factors that determine successful diplomatic interventions in the climate arena (Garcia, 2023; Lee, 2024).
Statement of the problem
Despite extensive diplomatic efforts at international summits, significant gaps remain in the global response to climate change. Challenges such as divergent national interests, slow negotiation processes, and inadequate implementation mechanisms hinder the translation of summit agreements into concrete policy actions. This study seeks to identify the barriers to effective diplomatic engagement and to propose strategies that can enhance the impact of international negotiations on climate policy (Garcia, 2023; Lee, 2024).
Objectives of the Study
To assess the effectiveness of diplomatic engagement in international climate summits.
To identify the key barriers to achieving consensus on climate policies.
To propose strategies for improving the outcomes of international climate negotiations.
